The real story behind Invisible Children

The video is part of a campaign by the charity Invisible Children and has become somewhat of a viral sensation online. The campaign aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice. While I’m sure their intentions are admirable it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not doing it for large personal gains.

UK ISPs lose fight against file-sharing legislation

BT and TalkTalk have lost their appeal against the Digital Economy Act which is now set to try and curb online file-sharing. Both ISPs argued that the law was incompatible with EU legislation, however the courts disagreed.

The Pirate Bay could be blocked in the UK within months

Last year the MPA won a court case which required BT to block Newzbin2 and at that point it was predicted that many more would follow. Their next target was obviously going to be The Pirate Bay as it is regarded as the largest advocates of online piracy. Today that became a realisation with nine labels requesting The Pirate Bay be blocked.

Firefox 10 is now available

With Mozilla keeping to their 6 week release cycle the next major release is now available in its final form. Much like Firefox 9 the list of features looks scarce with the first being “the forward button is now hidden until you navigate back”.

FileSonic and Uploaded.to bow out in light of recent events

After Megaupload was shutdown earlier this week another large file-sharing website has shutdown its services. A statement was posted on FileSonic’s home page informing users that no further uploads would be allowed.

PIPA and SOPA withdrawn from the house

After two days of protests; widespread blackouts of websites including Wikipedia and Reddit as well as Megaupload being shutdown, Lamar Smith has removed SOPA from the house until further notice along with its twin PIPA.

Wikipedia Will Go Offline On 18th January To Protest SOPA & PIPA

By now almost everyone has heard of the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills that are currently being discussed in the United States. If passed it is widely believe that they could not just criple the internet but potentially remove all the things that make the internet great. Hollywood film studios request that BT block The Pirate Bay
